Creating Book Clubs for Friendships and Community

Welcome to The Book Club Connection! This is a place where you can learn to create your own book club that can foster friendships and memories to last a lifetime. I have been leading book clubs for over 10 years. My book club consistently has a waiting list* because it is a place where we not only read interesting books and discuss them, but more importantly we have formed fabulous friendships, and our book club meetings are an experience! I can help you do the same!

We need more connections that are meaningful and long-lasting! As a counselor and therapist, I can tell you that one of the most common issues I see with women who come to my practice seeking help with anxiety and/or depression is that they desire a group of friends, their tribe. Many will have one or two close friends, but they don’t feel like they “belong” to a group that is constant in their life.  I like to think of my book club as my tribe. But it didn’t just happen by chance. I have a well-thought-out process that has made my book club so incredibly successful.

Most of us make friendships based on our current life experiences. For example, as a mom I was a member of MOPS (mothers of preschoolers). I developed wonderful friendships in this group. However, once all our kids entered school we no longer qualified to be in the group. What about all those sports activities that our kids participate in? We often make great friends with fellow parents during those seasons, but then we no longer see those people after the season ends as they end up on different teams the next season.

Book club is different than other groups that depend on our phase of life. We can be single, married, with or without children and belong to a book club. We can remain in the book club well after our kids are raised and moving out on their own. The book club keeps going and the members don’t have to leave because they are entering a new phase of life. Book clubs are for young and old and you never have to change groups.

Book club is not just about reading books. It is about creating meaningful relationships. Books are simply a conduit for creating in-depth conversation and a means for connection. This is why I have made my book clubs social groups. Book clubs are meant to be a place where we create a sense of community.

A successful book club can create a thriving community where wonderful long-lasting friendships are formed and some of our best memories with friends are experienced. My book club has done this, and I want to share exactly how you can do it too, so you too can have this meaningful, satisfying, and fulfilling community experience in your book club.

The shared experiences and fun that my group has had together has helped my group create amazing memories. The best way to foster positive relationships in life is to create memories together. The fun our book club has are memories that I wouldn’t trade for money! I want your group to create experiences and have fun together as well. The memories you will make are priceless!

Once you get your club up and running, you may need creative ideas to help your group have the most memorable and meaningful experiences possible. I am sharing my personal book club experiences with all the details on how you can do it in your own group from one month to the next! I offer a subscription that makes your job as leader easy, as it provides all the instructions, printable games and activities, discussion questions and more for each month!

The dues that you collect from your group can cover the cost of The Book Club Connection subscription. This subscription will provide you with monthly games, activities, discussion questions, book themes, and links on where to purchase any themed items for your meetings. The monthly subscription cost is $9.95 a month. If you have a dozen members in your group, then the cost of the subscription is $1 a month per person!

In the long run the subscription should save you money, as games and activities will be provided (printable) and you do not have to purchase them elsewhere. Your monthly meetings will be easy to lead, as all the instructions and information will be emailed to you every month with the subscription. Book discussion months will provide details such as discussion questions, decor and food themes related to the book, games or trivia based on the book, and everything else you need to lead your book meeting. Because it is social book club, every other month is a social event rather than a book discussion meeting. For those months the email will provide details on an activity or game for your group to do that month. For example for one social month, you may be provided with printable book club charades and instructions on how to play the game.

The subscription will provide you with a monthly email with all the details on leading your upcoming meetings. Emails are sent approximately on the 15th of each month. Click the button below to subscribe today! You can cancel at any time (must cancel before the 1st of each month or you will be billed for that month’s subscription).

You can click on the “subscription sample” tab above to see an example of what you will receive via email when you subscribe to the book club connection. Feel free to use this sample for your own first book club meeting
